Description:
Ultra-secret bunker built in the early 1950s in the Kemmelberg, at a depth of 15 meters. The bunker was intended as the command centre of an international air defense system in cooperation with Great Britain, France, the Netherlands and Luxemburg but never fulfilled this function as the NATO chose another air defense system (NADGE). The Supreme Command of the Belgian Armed Forces then transformed the bunker into a command post, with extensive communication systems, to be used for exercises or in case of conflict. After the Cold War, the bunker lost its military value.
The bunker, with a total surface of 2.000m² and well-preserved with original furnishing and equipment, now is transformed into a museum of the Cold War. The 46 rooms are organized around an impressive Operation Room at the core of the bunker.
